DAYS KENYA AND TANZANIA SAFARI |
DAY 1: NAIROBI, KENYA
You meet up with the leader
and fellow travellers at your hotel in Nairobi. Nairobi is a bustling
commercial centre known for its extraordinary ethnic diversity and for
being East Africa�s largest, highest 1700 metre (5577.4 feet) high and
youngest (founded in 1899) city, where you spend the first night.
DAY 2: LAKE NAIVASHA,
KENYA
Leaving Nairobi on your 15
day Kenya and Tanzania Safari tour you drive to Lake Naivasha, one
of the most beautiful of the Rift Valley lakes famous for its
birdlife. Whilst here you have the option to take a boat ride to
Crescent Island Game Sanctuary.
DAYS 3 & 4: LOITA HILLS,
KENYA
You have two days on your 15
day Kenya and Tanzania Safari tour in the high grasslands of the
beautiful Loita Hills. Accompanied by Masai guides, you will take
walks from your camp into the heart of the hills where you can hope
to see Buffalo, Bush buck and Hartebeest, whilst enjoying some
spectacular views.
In the
evening you'll learn about the culture of these proud East African
warriors whilst enjoying dinner around the campfire.
DAYS 5 & 6 - LAKE
VICTORIA, KENYA
You
travel west on your 15 day Kenya and Tanzania Safari tour,
approaching Lake Victoria through fertile farmlands renowned for
their tea plantations one of which you may even visit. Camp is set
up near Kisii which is famous for its coloured soapstone carvings
and you might visit a local workshop to see these carvings being
crafted.
The
following day of your 15 day Kenya and Tanzania Safari tour you head
south and cross the border into Tanzania and camp near the shores of
Lake Victoria.
DAYS 7 & 8 - SERENGETI,
TANZANIA
You enter
the western side or the Serengeti National Park and commence your
game viewing on the great plains. The Serengeti is world famous for
the quality of its game-viewing. You get to spend two glorious days
exploring the vast plains, rock outcrops (kopjes) and sparsely
wooded river valleys of this incomparable park home to Lion,
Cheetah, Leopard, Wildebeest, Gazelle, Zebra and Giraffe.
In
general you search for the animals in the early morning and late
afternoon, following the animals' example and resting during the
heat of the day. You camp within the Serengeti, listening to the
sounds of the nocturnal animals and birds.
If time
permits it is possible to do an early morning balloon safari as an
optional extra.
DAYS 9 &
10: NGORONGORO CRATER, TANZANIA
Today on
your 15 day Kenya and Tanzania Safari tour you leave the Serengeti and
head for the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. En route you stop off at
Olduvai Gorge where some of the oldest humanoid skeletons have been
discovered. There is a small museum here which contains many of the
fossils and relics uncovered in the area. You spend a full day in the
Crater in smaller four wheel drive vehicles, accompanied by a local
guide.
All year
round there is excellent game-viewing with about 30,000 resident
animals. The photographic opportunities are unrivalled and this is one
of the best places to see the endangered black rhino. You descend the
slopes of the volcanic massif to Karatu where you camp the night.
DAY 11:
GREAT RIFT VALLEY, TANZANIA
You leave
Karatu today and descend the Great Rift Valley escarpment, past a
variety of local craft markets. You have wonderful views across Lake
Manyara as you continue your 15 day Kenya and Tanzania Safari tour
journey to Arusha.
DAY 12:
ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK, TANZANIA
Today on
your 15 day Kenya and Tanzania Safari tour you embark on a walking
safari in Arusha National Park, accompanied by an armed Ranger. The
park contains the 4566 metre (14 980.3 feet) high peak of Mount Meru,
the 3km (1.86 miles) wide crater of Ngurdoto and the alkaline lakes of
Momella. Walking gives you the chance to see the flora and excellent
birdlife at close hand and hopefully you will see Buffalo, Elephant,
Antelopes and Monkeys.
Heading
north on your 15 day Kenya and Tanzania Safari tour you enter Kenya
once again and camp near to the border town of Namanga.
DAYS 13 &
14: AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK, TANZANIA
Amboseli
National Park provides your next great highlight. You continue game
viewing in this beautiful park with its distinctive marshy vegetation
and meandering swamp that draws the animals towards it in search of
water. Herds of Wildebeest and Zebra are commonly seen, along with a
variety of Antelope species.
Larger
animals such as Elephant and Giraffe can be seen near the swamp areas,
as well as large quantities of waterbirds. Amboseli however is made
special not only by its abundant wildlife, but also because the peaks
of snow-capped Kilimanjaro tower over its grasslands creating an
incredibly beautiful backdrop.
DAYS 15 :
NAIROBI, KENYA
After an
early morning game drive, you leave Amboseli and return to Nairobi
where your 15 day Kenya and Tanzania Safari tour ends after lunch.
